FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I find and access datasets?

Navigate to the Terbine system page at terbine.io and enter your desired item into the search bar. You’ll see initial results. Narrow them by toggling filters. If your organization is a Member, you can Add To Workspace for down-selection and if final-selected, access. Datasets can be retrieved either manually by downloading, or programmatically via the Terbine API set.

Where do the data feeds come from?

Terbine obtains datasets and streams consisting of aggregated sensor information from a wide variety of sources, including various government agencies, universities and other organizations throughout the world.

Does Terbine hold any Personal Identifying Information (PII)?

A design and business tenet of Terbine is to hold only machine-generated data, and descriptions of the data sources aka feeds. No PII nor imagery is accepted. This avoids concerns regarding privacy, and allows Terbine to be accessed from many countries and jurisdictions where PII collection is strictly regulated, ala the GDPR in Europe.

What do the results of my searching and filtering show me?

Search Results show you one or more feeds that fit your search criteria, which can be based upon a variety of attributes assigned to a given feed through Terbine-generated metadata.

How does my organization establish a Terbine account?

Start with the Create Account page, then go through the procedures. Once your account request has been approved, as Admin you can assign Roles to different persons within your organization, or assign multiple Roles to one person. Note that an active account is required to retrieve datasets.

Can Terbine analyze data for my organization?

The business model of Terbine is to operate as a large scale curator for machine-generated data feeds. In that role, the company works with partners who specialize in data analytics for particular industries. An entity which performs analyses using data pulled from Terbine, along with other sources provided they do not contain either imagery nor PII, can add their datasets to the Terbine Exchange as new “data products” and obtain revenue from their sales. Correspondingly, Terbine will track the Terbine-supplied data feeds incorporated into a new dataset, so that all in that particular dataset’s supply chain can receive their portion of the resultant revenues.

How are accounts managed and administered in Terbine?

Every entity with a Terbine Account has its own Dashboard where users view and access functionality based on roles, to manage and monitor Account settings, email notifications, data retrieved, payments, user permissions and more.
