Leadership Bios

David Knight, CEO/CTO

David is a serial entrepreneur and experienced startup executive with a history of innovation and market development, and a background in core technologies including multi-spectral sensing and communications, messaging, enterprise software and distributed systems. His work ranges from digital entertainment to defense, including setting global communications standards, the creation of the first commercial email servers, pioneering online mass storage and more. He was an original member of the XPRIZE team that helped launch the private spaceflight industry. An ardent supporter of STEM education, he is a Trustee of the California Science Center Foundation.

Brian Enochson, Head of Software Development

Brian has deep knowledge of highly performant, scalable transaction-based platforms and networks. He is a prominent developer of large systems and applications within Time Warner/ HBO, Citigroup and SRA, and a Veteran Air Force Staff Sergeant.

Ben Grossmann, Head of User Interface Design

Ben is the co-founder of experience design company Magnopus, Terbine’s partner in developing user experiences and interfaces. Recognized with both Academy® and Emmy® Awards, Ben has led teams and experience design for dozens of commercials and feature films, including Martin Scorsese’s Hugo and Star Trek Into Darkness.

Tiffany Wang, Head of Business Development

Tiffany has an award-winning track record in energy and infrastructure investment, including projects exceeding $2 billion across Asia, Africa, Europe and the US. She co-founded Galaxy Tech Ventures and advised reputable energy and future mobility companies. Tiffany also led global partnership development for the CalSEED initiative.

Commander Kenneth Ham, Advisor

Ken is a former NASA Astronaut and retired US Navy Captain. He’s the former Chair of the Aerospace Engineering Department at the US Naval Academy. He was a Space Shuttle Commander and Pilot for International Space Station (ISS) assembly missions, and is a Combat Naval Aviator (F/A-18 Hornet) & Test Pilot. He’s currently involved in commercial human spaceflight and various defense-related ventures.

Peter Knez, Advisor

Peter is the founder of Kinetic Capital Management and Meridian Global Research. He co-founded Incapture Group which operates a fintech development and services company, Incapture Technologies. He’s the former Co-Chief Investment Officer, BlackRock & Global Chief Investment Officer/fixed income, Barclays. He held key positions with Lincoln Capital Management & Goldman Sachs, plus professorships at Kellogg School of Management, University of Wisconsin, and University of Chicago.

Dr. Jane Macfarlane, Advisor

Jane is Director of the Smart Cities Center at University of California at Berkeley and Executive Director of the Sustainable Transportation Initiative at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. She headed research for HERE, a leader in geospatial mapping, was VP of Process Engineering at battery company Imara, and Director of Advanced Technology Planning for OnStar at General Motors. Her focus and expertise encompasses geospatial mapping, semantic analytics, big data analytics and visualization, contextualization of data streams and spatially distributed computing.

Peter Rojas, Advisor

Peter is a founding partner at Betaworks Ventures, a seed stage venture capital fund based in New York and San Francisco. Prior to joining Betaworks he worked at AOL as VP of Strategy and Co-director of Alpha, the company's experimental products group. He is also the co-founder of several startups, including Weblogs Inc. (acquired by AOL, where he created and was the founding editor of tech sites Engadget and Joystiq; gadget blog Gizmodo; music discovery service RCRD LBL; and gdgt, a social commerce platform acquired by AOL).

John Rossman, Advisor

John is the author of The Amazon Way book series, and a Managing Director at Alvarez and Marsal, a global professional services firm.  Mr. Rossman is an expert at crafting and implementing innovative and digital business models and capabilities, including internet of things.  He is a sought after speaker on creating a culture of operational excellence and innovation.  Prior to A&M, John was an executive at Amazon.com where he launched the third party selling platform and ran the merchant services business.  Mr. Rossman’s blog is www.the-amazon-way.com.

Dr. Drew Starbird, Advisor

Drew is Executive Director of the My Own Business Institute (MOBI) and former Dean of the Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University.  He is a Professor of Operations Management & Information Systems, and conducts research in quality control, supply chain management, food safety & contracting, and entrepreneurship. His works have been published in Naval Research Logistics, Journal of the Operational Research Society, Journal of Agricultural & Resource Economics, and more.

Matt Stein, Advisor

Matt is an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at GE Ventures, where he focuses on IoT data and new business models. Prior to GE Ventures, Matt founded and led Multitude, an urban air pollution sensor aggregation platform that was acquired after eighteen months. Prior to Multitude, Matt led commercial strategy and partner ecosystems for GE Digital, the company's industrial IoT business unit. His other professional experience includes business development, consulting, and investment banking.
